Articles I recently read and think are worth your timeAeon Essays, by Philip Goff. 8 February 2018
Is the Universe a conscious mind?
Philip Goff lays out why the universe's physical constants seem improbably precise for life to exist at all, then argues that neither traditional theism nor the multiverse hypothesis explains this without running into serious problems of its own. His alternative, cosmopsychism, proposes the universe itself may be a kind of conscious, value-sensing whole that shaped those constants toward the possibility of life.

The How & Why of Consciousness
Raymond Tallis pushes back on the tidy assumption that evolution simply explains consciousness, pointing out that nonconscious cyanobacteria have thrived for roughly 2.5 billion years without needing to feel anything at all. He argues no one has actually shown that primitive sentience gives an organism any real survival edge, and that even if it did, science still has no account of how unfeeling matter becomes feeling in the first place.
