Rujjwal's Notebook

About me

I grew up in Nepal, now I live in United States, with an antenna tuned to everything, from the human body and the markets to consciousness and the cosmos?

I'm Rujjwal, and curiosity is what keeps me going. Knowing things is the fuel my soul runs on, and it isn't picky about the topic. One moment I'm wondering what a black hole is made of, and the next I'm marveling why should we even have awareness of ourself, what purpose has emergence of awareness or intellegence served to evolution of cosmos.

My mind drifts from consciousness, why we're here, and whether any of this is real, to markets, war, geopolitics, and human history. Underneath, it's really one question: how do we think, and why do we act the way we do? I notice the small things around me and how society works up close, and I even entertain ideas at the edges, like parapsychology and what gets labeled pseudoscience. I think of myself as an antenna with every channel open. I'd rather hear an idea out and set it down than never hear it at all.

By profession, I'm a physician working full time. That gives me a front-row seat to one of the messiest, most complicated systems in America: healthcare. Here I dissect how it actually works, what's good, what's broken, and what's just tangled, drawing on what I've seen firsthand and books that shaped my thinking, worth mentioning are Medicine's Dilemmas and An American Sickness, among many others.

Over the years, one belief has quietly flipped for me. When I was young, I thought science and medicine had figured most things out. The older I get, the more I realize we've only scratched the surface, and the questions keep outnumbering the answers, about life, the human body, and medicine itself. I've come to see the body as one connected system. Modern medicine often works by targeting a single pathway or receptor, and that approach has done enormous good, but I believe it can also ripple through the whole system in ways we don't always go looking for.

This notebook is where all of it lands. It's not a place of final answers. It's a record of someone thinking out loud, learning in public, and sometimes getting it wrong.
